Our Meditation Tradition
The meditations offered at Gekkaji are rooted in the Vipassana tradition, derived from the Satipatthana Sutra as taught by Shakyamuni Buddha. Vipassana means seeing things clearly. Through techniques of self-observation, we aim to address the suffering caused by craving, and grasping.
Reverend Ryumon Chad Grohman is a certified meditation teacher, having completed the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP). This program, led by renowned teachers Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, also included guidance from guest instructors such as Teja Bell, Jonathan Foust, Anne Cushman, Konda Mason, and Crystal Johnson.
The MMTCP is offered in collaboration with the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley, and is designed to deepen the practice of mindfulness, compassion, and well-being.
Meditation is offered weekly, accompanied by a talk that provides practical tools for bringing mindfulness into everyday life. These sessions are designed to help cultivate equanimity, gentleness, and compassion in every aspect of your daily experience.
